Dance Extravaganza abounds with innovative exciting new Contemporary works by Australian Choreographers, alongside a vibrant quirky new production showcasing the diverse talents of the National Theatre Ballet dancers in Jazz and Tap.
Melenie Stevenson is currently choreographing her latest work The Six Wives of Henry VIII for the NTB. An intensely, highly detailed interpretation, of the tumultuous, sometimes quite abhorrent, catastrophic lives of the six wives of Henry VIII. A sincere, thought provoking delivery of emotions by woman many centuries ago in many shades of colour. Melenie’s career has brought her many accolades including the Melbourne Fringe Festival ‘Dance and movement award and the Victorian Musical Theatre Guild choreography award.
Matthew Thomson winner of many choreographic awards delves into the architecture, playfulness and athleticism of dance paraded to Philips Glass’s wonderfully evocative composition ‘String Quartet Number 5’.
Matthew Tusa our International Choreographer from Wiesbaden Germany who trained at the National Theatre Ballet School is creating a sensational work representing everything new and now.
The evening’s final work – showcases the NTB dancers in Jazz Tap and Contemporary.
‘Evoking Memories’ Choreographed by Alicia Frias Garcia – Jacquelyn McCarthy and Kim Soden Taylor tells a story of a young girl recalling memories of her life by delving in to her private Treasure Chest and finding lifelong cherished possessions.
